Aboriginal Health

Brand guidelines

Ord Valley Aboriginal Health Service (OVAHS) provide comprehensive primary healthcare services to Aboriginal people in the East Kimberley region.

OVAHS were seeking to develop their corporate identity and improve the way they visually communicate with stakeholders: community, patients, clients, staff, other clinicians and government. OVAHS wanted their branding to align with their strategic plan: its vision, objectives and values.

Preliminary analysis

Nikki M Group conducted preliminary analysis to understand OVAHS’ requirements and provide them with a statement of work to improve their branding. This included:

  • designing core assets that form the visual identity of the OVAHS brand
  • developing stationery and brand collateral
  • creating templates for marketing and communications
  • collating brand assets, files and templates
  • producing a brand guideline.

Brand development

There were four key phases to develop the OVAHS brand.

  1. Typography and colour
  2. Graphic elements
  3. Stationery and templates
  4. Brand guideline

After each phase, OVAHS were presented with a clear summary for review and feedback. In the last phase, all design work was collated into a brand guideline, and presented alongside a file archive with all design assets, press-ready artwork and templates.

Core design assets

Nikki M Group worked directly with the OVAHS Chief Executive and Board Members to create core design assets including:

  • colour palette
  • logo
  • fonts
  • Aboriginal language elements
  • graphic elements
  • framing devices
  • core-value icons.

Graphic elements

A series of five illustrated panels were developed for use in marketing materials. Each panel was given a unique theme:

  • Ancient Ancestors
  • River Refuge
  • Knowledge Country
  • Wetland Wonders
  • Spirit Dreaming.

Graphic elements add colour to the brand and are designed to capture the imagination of different age groups, creating a sense of connection and wonder about place and home.
