Sadler Mathematics
Sadler Mathematics was designed and typeset for Cengage Australia. The series consists of 10 textbooks.
Miscellaneous exercises are scattered through the chapters. The exercises are composed in light pastel-coloured boxes that bleed into the spine and off the top of the page. The colour is consistent through the series and contrasts with the vivid chapter colours.
Each chapter is a different colour. Chapters start with a vibrant colour page that includes the chapter number, topic and mini table of contents.
The Sadler series was designed for senior secondary students. The colour palette and design elements create a sophisticated style that is consistent, ordered and structured.
In each chapter, there are theory sections that are followed by numbered exercises. The exercises often include images, diagrams, equations and tables.
Student books in the Sadler series range from 220–460 pages. The books are printed offset, in full-colour, and are limp bound, section sewn.
Each chapter starts on a left-hand page. This prevents repagination during the correction stages. Any chapters that were short had a full-colour page inserted at the end of the chapter.
For the Sadler Mathematics series, thousands of equations were exported out of Microsoft Word and imported into Adobe InDesign using AutoPlace (software designed by Nikki M Group). The software automatically places and aligns equations in the layout.
Nikki M Group created more than 1400 mathematics illustrations for the Sadler Mathematics series. This included drawing diagrams, charts, graphs, number lines, geometry and parabolas. This image shows precise sine curves. The graphs are created in Adobe Illustrator and placed into the layout design using Adobe InDesign and AutoPlace.
The answer section is laid out in double columns. Pages have a pale grey, full-bleed background colour that separates it from the rest of the book.
