Cover design for publication
Actions to address health literacy and equity in social housing, Victoria
, a research report published for the Centre for Global Health and Equity, Swinburne University of Technology.
Nikki M Group provided a half-day photo shoot, taking exterior photos of social housing in South Melbourne. Photographs are used on the front cover and throughout the publication to give context to the report.
Internal pages are designed as a three-column layout with a generous outside margin. The layout design helps to arrange complex data including text, images, data tables, graphic elements and diagrams.
Each section has design elements derived from hand-painted mural tiles created for the report. The design elements include patterning in section numbers, page tabs and section colours.
Tables of data, information graphics and diagrams are used throughout the report to present statistical data for analysis into research findings.
An illustrated heat map displaying cluster analysis of responses to an online survey.
Graphic elements are applied to the publication to create a unique theme and identity. The graphic elements are derived from hand-painted mural tiles and are applied as patterning to the cover, section openers and on some internal pages.
As well as being distributed online as a PDF file, the report was digitally printed and PUR bound. (PUR is 2.5 times stronger than perfect binding.)
Nikki M Group provided concept design prior to production. This included developing design elements that formed a unique identity for the publication and supporting design assets including an edm, video-conference backdrops, banners and posters.
There are many large complex data tables throughout the publication, which was a key reason for using a landscape format. The landscape format made it possible to fit wider tables of data, heatmaps and information graphics without splitting them across multiple pages.
